Western Canadian Open Day 3 Recap

Records fall on day 3 of the Speedo Western Canadian Open in Manitoba!

13 year old Jessica Luo continued her fantastic meet, as she swam to a 100 Fly 13-14 year old age group Vancouver Island Regional Record and a Pacific Coast Swimming Club Record on Saturday night in Winnipeg. Her time of 1:02.97, a best time by over a second, placed her 2nd overall in the Women's 15&U 100 Fly.  Jessica was the youngest competitor in the A Final of the event, and the only 13 year old to advance to finals from preliminary heats.

On the Men's side, Lucas Tyler posted a time of 57.52 in the A Final of the 16&U 100 Fly, to place him fourth overall in the event. Tyler closed with the one of the fastest second 50's seen on the day in 100 fly, to swim 0.3 seconds faster than he did in the preliminary heats.

In the 400 free, Sophie Lorette brought her total time taken off for the day to a whopping eight seconds, after she improved her time by another four seconds in finals. Her time of 4:35.13 helped her move up and place 2nd in the B Final of the Women's 15&U category. In the Women's 16&O division, Molly Gowans swam to a fourth place finish for Pacific Coast Swimming in a time of 4:26.03.

The great swims didn’t stop there, as Pacific Coast Swimming had both Hana Edwards and Hannah Lorette swim best times in finals, to each move up placings and earn valuable points for the team. Edwards finished with a time of 2:26.94, earning her 5th in the 15&U B Final, while Lorette swam to a time of 2:24.21, and a 4th place finish. In the Women’s 16&O division, Lauren Crisp swam to a 5th place finish with a time of 2:17.85. The race was full of big names and provided Crisp with good experience moving forward to AAA’s and Olympic Trials, as she got to compete against two members of this past summer’s World Championship team.

In the relays, the Pacific Coast Swimming team of Jessica Luo, Allison Ballantyne, Erin Lawrance and Molly Gowans swam to a 6th place finish in the 4X50 Freestyle.

Looking ahead, Sunday marks the last day of the Speedo Western Canadian Open, and features the Pacific Coast Swimming team competing in 200 fly, 50 free, 200 IM, and women’s 1500 freestyle events.
