Island swimmers shine at Canadian trials in home pool - Times Colonist

Even with two-time Olympic-medallist Ryan Cochrane of Victoria recently retired, the Island has placed six swimmers on Canada’s 32-member team for the 2017 world aquatics championships in July at Budapest.

World Championship Trials Day 4

The finals of Day 4 saw PCS grab a gold medal, a bronze, 3 further A-final spots and some B-final finishes.  Eric Hedlin won the 1500 Freestyle in a time of 15:08.35, 27 seconds ahead of second place.  Jon McKay grabbed the 1500 bronze in a time of 15:38.39 and Richard Weinberger finished 8th in a time of 15:47.94.  Chris Deegan, swimming in priliminaries, finished 12th overall after dropping 13 seconds, in a time of 16:05.33.

World Championship Trials Day 3

On Day 3, PCS had 2 A-Finalists in the 400 Freestyle.  Kaity Gervais, after dropping 1.6 seconds in prelims to qualify 7th in a time of 4:21.23, finished in 8th in another best time of 4:21.04.  Jon McKay wasn't able to duplicate his priminary time at night, qualifying 6th in the morning in 3:59.85 before finishing 8th in 4:01.38.

World Championship Trials Day 2

Day 2 of World Championship Trials saw a fairly quiet day for PCS.  The events swum - 100 Free, 100 Breast, 400 IM and 50 Back.

In the 100 Free, Jessica Luo finished in 26th overall in a time of 58.43, and was the only 15 year old in the event.

Sophie Tarrant just missed out on a B-Final in the 100 breast, finishing in 19th place in a time of 1:13.09.  On the men's side, Michael Schmidt also barely missed out on swimming at night, finishing 18th in a best time of 1:07.14.

On an exciting night for Canadian Swimming including Kylie Masse's near World Record in the 100 Backstroke, PCS had some great performances to get excited about.
