2018-2019

Jon McKay swam the 10km Open Water race at the World Championships in Korea today.  With 10 Olympic spots available in this race, the best of the best were there with a mission.  Jon swam a very smart race given his minimal experience, holding back in the field and saving energy for the first half of the race, moving up to 18th in the third quarter as the pace quickened, and held in the top pack until the last mile of the race, finishing 24th place overall in a field of 75!  Finishing in the top third of the field as one of the least experienced swimmers there is a great result, congratulat

Swimming near the front of the race, around 5th to 7th place throughout, Eric made a move towards the front with about 1km to go and held on for 3rd place!  This is Eric's second World Championship Medal of his career!  Stay tuned on Monday to watch Jon McKay compete hard in the 10km event!

Jon McKay and Eric Hedlin will be competing in Korea at the World Championships this week.  Eric will be up first, as he competes in the 5km Open Water event tonight at 4pm PST (10AM July 13 in Korea).  Jon, having won Canada's trials, will compete in the 10km Open Water event, Monday night at 4PM (10AM July 16 in Korea).  Jon's race has extra intrigue as it will also determine the first 10 Male Open Water swimmers to be named to the 2020 Olympic Games!  Good luck Jon, Eric, and coach Ron Jacks!

Closing out the meet, PCS and Spartans have been bouncing back and forth over 15 points, and between each event, the 4th and 5th positions have changed hands a number of times.
