Another Pan Am Medal for PCS Trained Athlete

Along with Richard Weinberger’s gold medal at the Pan Am games this weekend, came the bronze medal of Victoria triathlete Brent McMahon, who has been training with Richard and coach Ron Jacks to improve his swimming skill set since last year. 

McMahon has had some great results recently as he continues on his comeback trail after 18 months of being sidelined with a knee injury.

More on Weinberger's Pan Am Gold

This weekend brought the second International win in a row for UVPCS swimmer Richard Weinberger, at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.  Weinberger earned his gold medal in the 10km with a time of 1:57:31.00, just edging out his American competitor, Arthur Frayler, by .03 of a second.

Day One Update From Nanaimo Meet

PCS is competing at the Nanaimo Fall Invitational swim meet this weekend.  Coaches Mark and Brent have sent the follow update on Top 8 swims from Saturday's races.

Richard Weinberger Wins 10-kilometer Open Water Race at Pan American Games

Richard Weinberger edged out an american swimmer by 0.3 seconds to win gold today at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Richard's final time was 1:57:31.0 and the race was so close, officials had to use video replay to confirm the win.

Congratulations to Richard and his coach Ron Jacks!

Ron Jacks, Richard Weinberger and Margaret Penning Recognized at SwimBC Awards

The Team Aquatic Supplies SwimBC / BC Swim Coaches Association Awards banquet was held at the Whistler Conference Centre on Saturday, September 24.

Congratulations to Ron Jacks who was recognized as Open Water Coach of the Year, Richard Weinberger who was selected as Open Water Swimmer of the Year and Margaret Penning who received the award for Volunteer of the Year.

Important Notice: Saturday (Oct 1) Morning Practice Changed From McKinnon to Ian Stewart

Important Notice:

UVic is planning some major plumbing work in McKinnon Pool changerooms on Saturday Oct 1, 2011 (this week).  As a result, all of our practices on Saturday morning will be moved to the outdoor pool in the Ian Stewart complex (off of Gordon Head Rd).

Times will remain the same as the usual Saturday AM practice times.

Richard Weinberger Wins Oceanside Pier Open Water Mile

This weekend, Richard Weinberger competed in the annual race known as the Oceanside Pier Open Water Mile in California.  The race consisted of about 150 high-level competitive and open-water swimmers from the area. 

Richard took first place in the event by nearly 25 seconds.  He and the first place female (Christine Jennings, pictured with Richard above) won $500 for their wins.
