Weinberger Qualifies for Olympic 10km with Blistering Finish

Vikes and UVPCS Open Water swimmer Richard Weinberger qualified for the Olympic Games in Portugal this morning, capturing a silver medal in the 10 km qualifying race in a time of 1:45:30.2.

After a rough start where he lost his goggles, Weinberger slowly moved up in the pack.  At the first lap timed, he was in 49th position, and nearly 30 seconds behind the leaders.  He gradually moved his way up the field to 5th place with one lap to go.

Brent McMahon earns a spot on London's Triathlon Team

 This weekend in Madrid, Victoria triathlete Brent McMahon managed to secure a 3rd spot for the London Olympic team.  McMahon has been training for the swimming leg of his specialty with UVPCS' open water swimmers since returning to the sport a year and a half ago. The qualification makes Canada the 8th (and final) country in the world to qualify 3 men in the triathlon for 2012.  McMahon joins fellow Olympic qualifiers Simon Whitfield and Kyle Jones in heading to London, an incredible feat considering he was recently relegated to the sideli
