Duncan Spring Break Invitational 2020 Day 1

While the Provincials are going on at Commonwealth pool, PCS sent a group of 35 to Duncan for the annual Spring Break Invitational. In addition to the numerous best times and first time swimming events there were a few standout swims:

Eli Hicks swam two new VIR standard times in 50 Back and 50 Breast.  Kieran Feenstra slashed nearly 5 seconds off his 100 free for a new time of 1:04.11. Finally, Taryn Mercer took the time off she need to qualify for Provincials this summer in her 200 backstroke with a 2:35.34.

Pacific Coast Swimming continues to lead the BC Winter Provincial Championships after Day 2 with 413 points, just ahead of the Langley Olympians! We saw records fall, lots of Top 8 finals swims and big best times.

Crisp closes out nationals in dramatic fashion - U Sports Championships Day 3

VICTORIA – Four years ago, local athlete Lauren Crisp wanted nothing to do with swimming and thought she raced her last lap inside Saanich Commonwealth Place.

Three years later, she changed her mind and now has a pair of U SPORTS National Swimming Championship medal to show for it.

"It's crazy. It's insane. I can't believe I actually medalled - twice," said Crisp. "It still feels super surreal for me, coming back this year after three years, I never really considered this to be an option for me."

Hanus earns double gold for a second-straight night - U Sports Championships Day 2

VICTORIA – King Midas is jealous of Danielle Hanus' performance.

One of the University of Victoria Vikes best medal hopefuls capped off a dream individual U SPORTS National Swimming Championship run - she still has one more relay race remaining.

On Day 1, she won a pair of events where the gold evaded her grasp in the past.

"Honestly, I haven't been thinking too much about my races or performances. I just get in, try to do my best and whatever happens, happens," said Hanus.

Hanus heroic in home pool - USport Champs Day 1

VICTORIA – At Canada West meets, Danielle Hanus has brought home multiple golds and she has been a medal hopeful in many U SPORT meets. On Day 1 of the U SPORTS National Swim Championship at Saanich Commonwealth Place, she thrilled the hometown crowd with a pair of golds.

"It's pretty surreal right now. It's always fun racing at this meet and we have a great home pool advantage, getting to train here everyday," said Hanus. "I'm pretty stoked for the rest of the weekend. We have a lot of swimmers dropping times and giving it their all out there."

West Coast Collegiate 2020 - B Nat Recap

The B National Development Group competed at the West Coast Collegiate Meet here in Victoria this past weekend and had the following highlights:

- Nolan Crisp: 200 BK Western & Canadian Junior Championships Standard 

- Mariana Ponce de Leon: 50 BR Western Championships Standard, 100 BR Western Championships Standard

- Bridget Rupert: 100 BK Western Championships Standard

  • Jack Falconer was first in the group to crack the 5 min barrier in the 400 FR, followed by Justin Mazzuli in the next heat. 
  • Kieran Hawes and Bradley Rumball both made it to a final in the 50 BR.
  • Elena Pepenel, Tahlia Reid, and Sabine Black all had breakthrough races in their 100 FR, with big best times from each of them.
