UVPCS went up to Nanaimo October 26th-27th for the first short course swim meet of the season, amongst all of the other Vancouver Island teams. Our 65 swimmers took up a good chunk of the 330 swimmers, and had some great swims all around. It served as an assessment for the early season, and showed some big improvements in our younger swimmers, with some great developments in skills and techniques being shown in the pool. Heats were swam mixed gender as a timed final, so there was some fast swimming in each heat.  

Thank you to all of the Clubs who support the Xmas Cracker every year. The meet is now full and closed.

Congratulations to PCS athletes Jacob Rambo, Naeva Scott Bouris, Keir Oglivie and Hana Edwards on their selection to the Swim BC ID team. The group represents the largest contingent from any team in BC on the squad which will take part in two preparation camps (Oct 04-6 and Nov 22-24) as well as the opportunity to  compete for Canada in Luxembourg in January.

Congratulations to Nolan Crisp who broke two 11-12 Canadian Age Group Records during the Mid Summer Madness Meet.On Saturday August 3rd he smashed the 100BK record by 1.11 seconds which was set in 2012 and on Sunday August 4th he broke the 200BK record by .62 which had stood since 1998.

UVPCS Men stole the gold in 4x100 Medley Relay going away. After a great opening leg by Jake Rambo, Fitzpatrick came off winning the 100 Breast to move the team into first. Ogilvie and Murdock closed it out to finish over 2 seconds ahead of the next team. The time of 3:46 broke the senior club record by 2 seconds.

The men concluded the meet in second, and a scant 9 pts behind the winning University of Laval. 

The team were sixth overall. The highest combined finish at nationals for UVPCS. 

Brendan Fitzpatrick catpitalized on a great weekend of racing to steal the gold from a more experienced field . 

Day Four Prelims from WInnipeg

The last prelim session was a challenging one. In spite of that Brendan Fitzpatrick came through big qualifying first in 100m Breaststroke in a very quick 1:03.1. 

Rambo, Fitzpatrick, Ogilvie and Murdock again stood tall in the men’s 4x100 Medley relay also qualifying first but will need to step up tonight to be on the podium. 

Ogilvie, Rambo and Murdock  did not advance in individual events. 

Day Three Finals 

Action began in the pool for UVPCS with the 50m Backstroke. Hana Edwards improved on her morning effort moving from 13th to 11th, finishing in 29.85 just over her pb. Minutes later Jacob Rambo mirrored Edwards performance moving from 12th to 11th and improved to 27.1.

Ogilvie shaved a tenth off his prelim swim in 100m Butterfly staying 7th in the A final at 55.5.

Day Three in Winnipeg

After last night's excitment getting this morning ready to go was a challenge. The 200 IM was the first event. Jake Rambo and Brendan Fitzpatrick were just off their previous bests and will not advance.

Keir Ogilvie was back in action after a silver medal relay performance last night. His 55.6 100m fly this morning was enough to slide into 7th spot and his first national A final appearance in individual competition.
