Our first day at the annual Hyack meet where over 500 swimmers are competing at the Canada Games pool which is scheduled for replacement with groundbreaking on a new pool for New Westminister starting in 2020. The old pool is still good for some fast swimming in the finals. PCS had 18 final swims. It was mostly the girls night for making top 8 swims.
Jon McKay won the 10km trials in the Cayman Islands this past weekend to solidify his placement on the Canadian World Championships Team this summer where he will race the 10km event. This will Jon's first World Championships, was his first win at Trials, and also earns him a place in the Vikes Platinum Circle of Excellence hanging at McKinnon Pool.
OTTAWA – With just under 500 days to go until the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, the Canadian Paralympic Committee has announced that Para swimming legend Stephanie Dixon will be at the helm of the Canadian team for the next two years as chef de mission. She will serve the role both in Tokyo next summer and at the upcoming Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
The finals session of Canadian Western Championships was kind to the end. PCS rose to the occasion with 3 medals and a club record. The club finished in 4th of 54 scoring teams and number one of the 27 BC teams.
The first event of the night was 200m Butterfly. Sydney Meldrum finished out her meet in 8th spot. Keir Ogilvie settled for bronze in a tight race at the end in 2:08 and teammate Tom Chapman was 18th at 2:16.
Once again the Blue and Gold rose to the occasion. 8 of 11 PCS swims made it to the evening session and 7 of 8 are in the A final. Our two visiting atheltes also came through in multiple events.
The evening was very enjoyable on the PCS bench. Medals rolled in and the team stayed tough together to remain solidly in fourth spot in the team scores.
In spite of long days, and, for the athletes who came straight from Trials, their 8th day of competition in 11 days, today was another stellar day. 11 PCS swims in finals and 2 associated athletes scored sp[ots in finals in 3 events. Tune in tonight to see the Blue and Gold in action.

The second night of finals was good to the Gold and Blue. Keir Ogilvie moved up in 100m Free to sixth in a PB at 53.7 in 16 and U. Cale Murdock stroked to the silver in the 17 and O division in 52.1. Ian Goodyear snapped .13 off his prelim effort to taek the bronze at 1:06.6 in the Para division.
The team stuck together like gorilla glue today and came through 7 of 17 swims personal bests. Last night Sydney Meldrum swam in her first national competition final and today she repeated in 400IM. Jake Rambo enters the final in 400IM in top spot in a PB and looks to improve tonight. The PCS crew sits in 4th position in the team score. Tune in and cheer o the blue and gold!
