Zakala breaks 32-year-old record, Hanus medals twice on Day 1 of U SPORTS Swimming Championship

*See original story here* VANCOUVER – The University of Victoria Vikes swimming teams had a successful Day 1 of the 2019 U SPORTS Odlum Brown Swimming Championships, hosted Feb. 21-23 at the UBC Aquatics Centre in Vancouver. Three short course and three long course school records were broken, while Vikes Danielle Hanus and Josh Zakala medalled in their individual events.

UVPCS are VIR Champions!

The final points totals from VIR Champions have come in, and UVPCS won as a team on both the Women's and Men's side of the competition.  Our Women earned 3589.5 points to Island's 3193.5, and our Men earned 4333 points to Island's 3095.5.  Congratulations to the whole UVPCS family!

Australian Open Water Nationals

We had three swimmers head over to Adelaide, Australia for the weekend to compete at the Australian Open Water Nationals.  Jon McKay, Eric Hedlin and Chris Deegan all competed in both the 10km race as well as the 5km Time Trial competition.

The 5km race was fairly successful for the PCS crew - Jon McKay took home the Silver Medal in a time of 54:50.90, Eric Hedlin ended up 4th 55:04.94, and Chris Deegan finished 13th in 59:28.47.

Thank You for Another Great Xmas Cracker Meet

Well the 2019 UVPCS Xmas Cracker Meet has been pulled and all the prizes inside given out! Congratulations to all the swimmers and coaches for some great racing and fun times at the pool.

Events like this take the time and efforts of many people to plan and organize.  We want to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the organizers and volunteers for their time and hard work in making Cracker a success!

And finally, we wish all of our PCS Family and Friends a safe and happy holidays, and look forward to seeing you again at the pool in 2019!

2018 PCS Xmas Cracker - Day 2 Summary

Day Two of 2018/19 Christmas Cracker was a success. We had several swimmers making best times and many making finals. The finals were very impressive, with a ton of swimmers moving up spots. One of the highlights of the night`s relays was the 15-17 boys relay, Jordan Cowan, Jacob Rambo, Michael Schmidt and Keir Ogilvie. These boys went in strong and came out stronger, breaking the club record in the 4x50 meter free relay.

2018 PCS Xmas Cracker - Day 1 Summary

We had a very busy and exciting day for the first two sessions of the 2018 Xmas Cracker. Lots of swimmers winning prizes left right and center for setting records, draw prizes, and best times. Lucky Lucy Hallett won two massive chocolate bars for races ending in .16, the 1500 Free (21:39.16), and the 200 IM (2:58.16). 15 and over boys relay successfully broke the club record for 200m Medley and 12 and under boys have won 200m relay, bringing home 2 confident relay wins.

Hedlin, Hanus golden again on final day of Canada West Swimming Championships

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes swimming team added five individual and two relay medals on Day 3 of the Canada West Championships hosted in Calgary, Alta. Danielle Hanus raced to a gold and silver in the 200-m butterfly and 100-m backstroke, respectively. Eric Hedlin picked up his second gold of the weekend in the 400-m freestyle. Vike Josh Zakala earned silver in the men's 200-m individual medley, while Bailey Espersen got on the podium for bronze in the men's 200-m breaststroke.

Hanus claims second Canada West gold, breaks conference record in 100 fly

VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes men's and women's swimming teams added three more medals to their tally on Day 2 of the Canada West Swimming Championships hosted in Calgary, Alta. Danielle Hanus added her second individual gold medal of the championship after she broke the conference record and topped the podium in the 100-m butterfly.

VICTORIA – It was a golden day in the pool today for University of Victoria Vikes swimmers Eric Hedlin and Danielle Hanus at the Canada West Swimming Championships hosted at the University of Calgary Aquatic Centre. The UBC Thunderbirds topped the team leader board in both the men's and women's standings after Day 1 of three.
