2015-2016

Pacific Coast Swimming would like to extend a big congratulations to former club member Caleigh Filmer, on qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games as a member of the women's eight rowing squad.  Caleigh was a member of Pacific Coast Swimming from 2005 through to 2010, and was an Age Group National medalist as well as a club rec record breaker in 400, 800 and 1500 free.  

This year, mid July, three Canadian swimmers will attempt a 50 kilometre staged open water swim in the Great Bear Sea. Through their journey they will share stories about the rich history of the two communities they swim between and the unique environment that connects them.   The swim expedition will begin on the shores of Ocean Falls, British Columbia and end on the shores of Bella Bella. If all goes well the journey will take 2 days with a stop overnight on Stoney Island.  

Day three of the Swim BC AA Provincial Championships capped off a great weekend for the small team that Pacific Coast Swimming sent to Kamloops.  The final session saw a number of personal bests and Jemma Stevens find her way on to the podium in the Girls 12-13 200 Freestyle.  Stevens closed well during the last fifty metres of the race, out touching two other competitors by one tenth of a second with her time of 2:24.72. 

Pacific Coast Swimming was back at it on Saturday for day two of the Swim BC AA Provincial Championships taking place in Kamloops.  The day was highlighted by another three individual medal performances, as well as a number of AAA qualifications by the small contingent competing at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. 

A small contingent of Pacific Coast Swimming swimmer’s hit the water Friday, as day one of the Swim BC AA Provincial Championships began at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in Kamloops.   The first day of swimming was highlighted by four individual medals, three new AAA qualifiers, and a club record by Julia Hajash in the 50 breaststroke.

Vicky Mock raced in Grand Cayman this morning at the annual Flowers Sea swim.  This 10km race was chosen by Swim Canada as the qualification for the Junior Worlds Open Water race, taking place in the Netherlands in July.  To make the team, Vicky had to be one of the top two Canadian swimmers in her age group.  Vicky finished second overall to Emily Brunemann, the 2013 10km World Cup series winner.  Vicky was near the top throughout the race, and with Emily broke away from the rest of the pack with approximately 3km left in the race.

PCS coached swimmer Stephanie Horner qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro today in Setubal, Portugal.  Stephanie finished 15th overall in the swim, in a time of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 26.4 seconds.  10 swimmers qualified last summer at the World Championships, and today was the final chance to qualify, as 15 people were added.  The top 9 swimmers in Portugal, limited to one per country who had no swimmers yet qualify, would automatically be added.

Day three of the Vancouver Island Regional Long Course Championships saw Pacific Coast Swimming crowned top club on Vancouver Island with their commanding win in the overall team points total.  With an score of 9905 points, the Bolts more than doubled the point scores of their closest competitor and cross-town rival, Island Swimming.  The last session of the meet saw more than one-hundred and twenty final swims by Pacific Coast Swimming, as well as fifty-nine podium finishes.
